JJES welcomes high-quality original research articles, systematic reviews, and scholarly analyses in the fields of Education, Business, Arts and Humanities, and Social and Behavioral Sciences, as well as other areas relevant to the journal’s mission.

The scope is intentionally broad to encourage interdisciplinary contributions and innovative perspectives beyond these core areas. In line with its aim, JJES seeks to connect Southeast Asian perspectives with global academic discourse, providing a platform where regional insights engage with, inform, and enrich international scholarly debates.

We strongly recommend that authors review the journal’s scope, publication ethics, and submission checklist prior to submission to ensure their work meets the high standards expected by JJES. Submissions that do not comply with these requirements may be returned for revision before entering the review process.

Manuscript Preparation

All manuscripts submitted to JJES must adhere to the journal’s submission guidelines before being considered for review. The recommended manuscript length is 6,000 – 8,000 words, inclusive of the abstract, tables, figures, and references. Manuscripts exceeding 8,000 words may be considered at the discretion of the Editorial Board if the content warrants extended discussion. All manuscripts must be prepared in clear, concise, and scholarly English, demonstrating accuracy, coherence, and academic style, with either American or British spelling used consistently throughout the document.

The structure of the manuscript may include the following sections:

  1. Abstract - 200-250 words (4-6 keywords)
  2. Introduction
  3. Literature Review
  4. Methodology
  5. Findings
  6. Discussion
  7. Conclusion
  8. References

Referencing Style

References must conform to the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition style. Authors should ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency of all references. All author names, initials, and full journal titles must be included. Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) must be provided for all works that have them, formatted as active hyperlinks (e.g., https://doi.org/xxxx).

Only high-quality, scholarly, and academically credible sources are accepted, including:

  • Peer-reviewed journal articles.
  • Academic books and edited book chapters from reputable publishers.
  • Conference proceedings from recognized academic publishers.
  • Official government or intergovernmental organization reports (e.g., UN, WHO, OECD).
  • Theses or dissertations from institutional repositories, where directly relevant.

Non-academic sources such as Wikipedia, blogs, personal websites, commercial marketing materials, or self-published works without peer review are generally not accepted unless absolutely essential and explicitly justified by the author.

  • Confirm the manuscript has not been published elsewhere or is under consideration by another journal.
  • List only authors who have made significant contributions to the research and agree to be accountable for its content.
  • Obtain all necessary ethical approvals, including an Ethical Declaration Form approved by the relevant institutional review board, ethics committee, or authority before starting research.

  • JJES retains the right not to retract published articles except in cases of proven academic or research misconduct, ethical violations, or legal obligations.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to JJES undergo an initial editorial assessment to ensure alignment with the journal’s scope, formatting requirements, and ethical standards. Eligible submissions proceed to a rigorous double-blind peer review, where both author and reviewer identities are concealed to ensure impartial evaluation.

Reviewers are chosen based on subject expertise, prior scholarly contributions, and familiarity with the research topic. They are expected to provide constructive, evidence-based feedback within three to four weeks of accepting the review invitation.

JJES generally aims to deliver an initial editorial decision within eight (8) weeks of submission, though timelines may vary depending on manuscript complexity and reviewer availability. In exceptional circumstances, the process may take up to twelve (12) weeks.

Article Processing Charge (APC)

JJES operates as an open-access journal to ensure that all published content is freely and permanently accessible to the global scholarly community. To cover the costs of editorial management, peer review, copyediting, typesetting, DOI registration, online hosting, and long-term archiving, the journal applies an Article Processing Charge (APC) of RM250 per accepted manuscript.

The APC is payable only after a manuscript has successfully passed peer review and received final acceptance. There are no submission charges or fees for rejected manuscripts.

For inquiries regarding APC payment, please contact the Managing Editor at jjesadmin@jesselton.org.
